It is not only in their lineup that Space Lemon unites different cultures. Formed in Hollywood, California, by musicians from different parts of the world — the Mexican drummer Ale Robles, the Brazilian bassist Felipe Archer, the Italian vocalist Tommaso Gimignani and the Uruguayan guitarist Ignacio Zas — the band mixes their alternative rock to grunge and hard rock, showing influences wandering through Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and Them Crooked Vultures.
The result of their first EP could not be less than the expected: competent, straight to the point; with tuned vocals, well-thought tones and tempos, the compact is also very well executed, after all, it has members who met at the respected Musicians Institute. In 2013, Ignacio and Ale (also drummer of the punk/riot grrrl band The Menstruators, that recently shared the stage with Babes in Toyland and Le Butcherettes) began to share their passion for rock’n’roll and then started playing together. Soon, the jam sessions lead the duo to invite vocalist Tommaso and bassist Felipe to, officially, create a real band.
Their eponymous debut EP, which features a beautiful cover art made by Lucas David, was recorded and produced by Jaron Luksa (who already signed work with Foster the People, Amanda Palmer and John Legend) in his studio, The Rattle Room. The EP was then released digitally on 31 July this year and brought the following tracks, which have been performed live in popular venues in the United States, as The Viper Room and House of Blues:
01. “Alone Again”
02. “Down With Me”
03. “Another Monkey”
04. “Box on My Head”
05. “Inside Insane”
With a little over 15 minutes long, Space Lemon EP is available for purchase and also streaming through platforms like Spotify, iTunes, Google Play and Amazon. Below, you can have a preview of what you will find on their EP with the debut single, “Box on My Head“, and the live performance of “Inside Insane“.
